1. ANGIOSPERM TAXONOMY DIVISION
Extensive studies on flowering plants of India had been conducted so far. Present studies include floristic surveys, revisions, systematics and molecular phylogy of several plant families and genera. More than 100 new species were identified and reported.
3. BIOTECHNOLOGY DIVISION
Standardization of tissue culture protocols of several plants. Study and exploitation of clonal variations. Studies on molecular systematics. Studies using tools of bioinformatics.
3. BRYOLOGY DIVISION
Extensive survey and documentation on Bryoflora of Western Ghats. Revisionary studies on certain families including molecular analysis.
4. CELL AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY DIVISION
Studies conducted in this division include chromosome imaging and karyomorphometry, cytotoxic, mutagenic and anticancer assays, studies on genetic polymorphism as well as analysis of essential oils pertaining to aromatic and medicinal plants.
5. CYANOBACTERIAL DIVERSITY DIVISION
Earlier, studies were conducted on biodiversity and taxonomy of Pteridophytes and Bryophytes of Kerala. Now the division is focusing on algal & cyanobacterial research.
6. ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE DIVISION
Studies on ecology, plant diversity and environmental science with thrust on biofertilizers, phyto-remediation & bio-accumulation.
7. FUNGAL DIVERSITY DIVISION
Studies on mushrooms and other macro fungi. Extensive survey, documentation and systematic studies. Four new genera and more than 200 new species identified and reported.
8. GENETICS AND PLANT BREEDING DIVISION
Studies on the genetics and breeding of rice, spices, aromatic plants, plantation crops, medicinal plants and ornamental gingers.
9. PLANT PHYSIOLOGY AND BIOCHEMISTRY
Studies on the physiology of germination, dormancy and flowering. Studies on stress physiology, enzymology and eco physiology.
